Merchant & Mills : Japanese Selvedge Denim Marine Edge : 1/2 metre
Traditional selvedge denim made in Japan with one selvedge edge in a marine blue and the other in ecru.
Selvedge denim can be identified easily by the white and coloured edge. The jeans will be more durable and long lasting thanks to being self-edged and generally, due to the unique stitching, are more distinctive from other jeans. Selvedge denim jeans will keep their shape no matter how many times you wash them. This cloth is likely to soften and lighten in colour over time with continual washing.
This is an overstock fabric. Overstock fabric is excess fabric from fashion designers, movie sets, and fabric mills that is no longer needed for the job it was originally intended for. It is not re order able, so when it’s gone, it’s really gone!
- 100% cotton.
- 82cm wide.
- Approximately 10oz – we can only estimate weight as this is a dead stock fabric.
- Country of origin; Japan.
- Wash at 30 degrees with a non bio detergent, on a low spin.
We recommend pre-washing your denim before sewing. Putting a large piece of medium-heavy weight denim into the washing machine can sometimes lead to white creases in the denim, this is because it is a stiff fabric so it doesn’t have room to move around. We recommend doing the following to help this not to happen:
- Wash your denim on its own for the first wash.
- Sink your denim in water before hand, letting it fully absorb, so you are putting in the denim already wet.
- If you can break up your denim fabric into half this will help.
- If any white creases develop iron whilst still damp.
- Do not tumble dry.
When you have made the garment we would recommend washing it inside out.
